Festival des Inrocks Black XS @ La Cigale (05/11/10)

I did not take a subscription to La Cigale, I could not miss an event that brought on stage together 3 of the bands I've seen this summer at the Reading Festival: Foster The People, Miles Kane and Friendly Fires!

When I arrived, Morning Parade was already playing. I did not know them and they made me want to  listen to more of Us & Ourselves, their debut album released this year on which figure Under the Stars.
Morning Parade
Around 7:40 p.m, Foster The People took the stage of La Cigale by assault under tons of crazy screamings. The atmosphere immediately became very hot. Just in a few songs everyone (both the band and the crowd) was already sweating. They started their set with my favorite song, Houdini, and then continued with six other songs including, of course Call It What You Want, Helena Beat and Pumped up Kicks! The good times are the ones that are spent the most quickly, their performance went at the speed of light! I retain their sympathy and the public's enthusiasm for them, I knew they would be appreciated but I did not think it would be that much! If Morning Parade was an aperitif, Foster The People definitely electrified La Cigale! They left the stage with a standing ovation from the crowd.

Came Miles Kane's turn to take possession of La Cigale's stage. Here again the atmosphere became hot very quickly, I must say that he knows how to put people at ease with his energy and catchy melodies!
We had a set longer than Foster The People's one, including songs from his album such as Counting Down The Days or Rearrange but also a new song, Woman's Touch and a cover of Jacques Dutronc, The Responsible. I did not think it was possible to get even hotter than during Foster The People, it was before to live Come Closer and Inhaler live which have completed the set! In short, a triumph for this young man of 25 years.

Some people were leaving La Cigale after the superb performance of Miles Kane. It was too bad for those who left and so much the better for us who stayed to see Friendly Fires! I had seen them this summer in England, their homeland. I thought they would have less success than Foster The People and Miles Kanes in Paris this evening, big mistake! As soon as the first notes of Lovesick came, the public was unleashed, forgotten all the energy expended during Foster The People and Miles Kane! This was followed by the hits Jump in the Pool and Blue Cassette, huge! Known for his wacky dances, Ed Macfarlane was faithful to its reputation and he was unleashed on stage for the delight of the public who did not hesitate to do the same. Friendly Fires is a big dose of joy, happiness and let go. La Cigale became a sauna, the heat I thought at its height with Miles Kane was even more important! Even if you do not know much about the band, you can't help being taken by the overall atmosphere, very warm due to the mad energy and generosity of the band. With a set of the same length as Miles Kane's one, Friendly Fires did not finish to put La Cigale on fire! Ed Macfarlane even went for a singing walk into the middle of the mosh pit. They were the only band in the evening that came back on stage under tons of applause for an encore, they finished to tired the public with Hawaiin Air and Kiss of Life. At the end of the concert, they were themselves surprised by the enthusiasm of the crowd and thank us.
In short, it was a very pleasant evening! The festival was filmed by Inrockuptibles so you should be able to find some official videos. Otherwise I invite you to go for a ride on my Youtube channel because I have uploaded some videos.
