Muse @ Paris Olympia (02/10/2012)

On Tuesday, a bunch of lucky ones had the privilege to attend the very intimate Muse concert at the Olympia to celebrate the release of The 2nd Law. For the occasion and to fight against the second hand market, an ingenous system was developped by Alias Production. Tickets were at people's name, delivered by hand and indissociable of a wristband, given at the entrance of the venue. An initiative that was really appreciated by all !
The band's last concerts in France were on June 11&12th 2010, needless to say that their comeback was expected! Besides, nearly 50,000 people tried to get the precious tickets when they went on sale last week.
No opening act, a song from the Tornados as an introduction and Muse directly went on stage. After a welcome worthy of the name, the first notes of Supremacy gave us goosebumps!
Following this, was a serie of songs all more monstrous than the others. On one hand the new ones, Panic StationAnimalsSave MeFollow Me et Survival. On the other hand, the ones we all know by heart, Hysteria, Time is Running Out, Stockholm Syndrome, Starlight...

The atmosphere was excellent, sometimes so there was so much loud that we could have though we were in Paris Bercy, a 18 000 venue ! The climax was first reached with Bliss that surprised many.. Third single from Origin of Symmetry album, this song has delighted fans of the first hour. Knights Of Cydonia was also a highlight of the madness of the crowd!
The band was in full communion with its audience. Matthew Bellamy, usually reserved on stage seemed really happy to be there and was more communicative than usual. Dom, Morgan and Chris, smiling, were also looking like they were having a good time !
History is that Matthew is the second member of the Bellamy family to set foot in the Olympia. His father played there with his band, The Tornados in 1963 and naturally Matthew gave him a wink by chosing Telstar as the opening song of the show.
The new songs were very well received. Although the album was officially released the day before the concert, some people already knew the lyrics by heart! Supremacy was perfect as an opening song, very powerful, Panic Station is thrilling and heady, Animals is more quiet and intimate and Follow Me is just amazing! Rather mystical and aerial, Save Me was a special moment. The lights turned on Chris, the bassist, and for the first time, Matthew, joining Dom stayed behind. The image of these two musicians watching their friend singing on stage was touching.
For the anecdote, at the end of the concert when Matthew went to the piano with his guitar in the back, the public, connoisseur, strongly chanted "Newborn, Newborn, Newborn". It is the way Newborn usually starts. Matthew, Chris and Dom looked at each others, a little bit hesitant and we really thought they were going to play Newborn but they finally decided to continue with what was planned, that is to say Survival.
One thing is now for sure, Muse is back! It was undoubtedly one of those concerts where you had to be this year. We will remember this Tuesday, October 2, 2012 for a long time. As part of their tour the band will come back to France in October and December. They will play in Montpellier  on Oct 16th, in Paris on Oct 18th, in Nantes on Oct 22nd and in Strasbourg on Dec 19th.
