Sunday Song: Girls & Boys and Song 2 from Blur

Today, it's not just one song that I propose to you but two, the honor goes to Blur !! I found their Brits Awards performance astonishing this week ! They'll be in Hyde Park this summer to give a concert for the Olympics and there are rumours that they may do  some festivals too. I hope that it is going to tempt them to come back on the musical scene because I would really like to see them live someday!

Playlist: Duets and musical collaborations

Last Tuesday were held in London, the Brits Awards, equivalents of the Grammy Awards in the USA and of the Victoire de la Musique in France. This year were rewarded among others Ed Sheeran, Lana Del Rey or still Adele. We've been able to watch various live performances (Florence and The Machine, Rihanna, Coldplay) and the awaited short Blur show at the end of the ceremony. Noel Gallagher played AKA... What A Life inviting Chris Martin on the piano and it gave me the idea of a duets / musical collaborations playlist. Usually Rnb and Pop music are the styles that have many cooperations but Indie and Rock music are not outdone! So I propose you a little selection of songs that hold my attention, whether it is by their quality or their originality:

Chris Martin ft Oasis - Live Forever

Linkin Park ft Jay-Z - Numb (Encore)

Muse ft The Edge - Where The Streets Have No Name (Live Glastonbury 2010)

Seether ft Amy Lee - Broken

U2 ft Green Day - The Saints Are Coming

Crystal Castles ft Robert Smith - Not In Love

Michael Tipes ft Coldplay - In The Sun

David Bowie ft Arcade Fire - Wake Up

Gorillaz ft Snoop Dogg - Clint Eastwood

U2 Feat Mick Jagger, Fergie & Will.i.am - Gimme Shelter

Kid Cudi ft MGMT - Pursuit of Happiness

The XX ft Florence Welch - You Got The Love

U2 ft Arcade Fire - Love Will Tear Us Appart (Joy Division Cover)

And you, what are your favorite musical collaborations ? Don't hesistate to post your songs in the comment section, I'm really open minded for musical discoveries !

Sunday Song: Went Away by The Maccabees

Please accept my apologises for the lack of updates, I have been quite busy but I did not forget the blog ! On this sunday I have the pleasure to present you Went Away, the new single from The Maccabees that we can currently hear on the radio in UK. Once again it's an English band that I discovered thanks to Xfm. They stoped by Paris a couple days ago to give a sold out show at La Maroquinerie. Unfortunately I wasn't in Paris this day, otherwise I would have gone ! If you were there, don't hesistate to give your impressions !

Miles Kane + Arctic Monkeys @ L'Olympia Paris (03/02/2012)

Miles Kane and Arctic Monkeys are touring in France together for 7 dates, three of which are in Paris in venues bigger and bigger: Casino de Paris (31/01), Olympia (03/02) and Zénith (06/02). Yesterday's show was broadcasted online by the French magazine Les Inrocks so if you're a fan you may have seen the show already.
Dressed all in red Miles Kane began his set by Better Left Invisible and then continued with Counting Down The Days. He has been warmly welcomed by the Olympia from his first songs. Useless to say that the atmosphere  ratcheted up a notch when he interpreted Rearrange
He played about 45 minutes. It was more a full concert than an opening act! We had his Jacques Dutronc's cover, The Responsible and also a new song, My Kind, played since the beginning of his new tour. He did not hesitate to play with the public as usual. Come Closer, Quicksand and Inhaler set fire into the Olympia, everyone went crazy on these songs ! To finish Alex Turner joined Miles Kane onstage and they played together Standing Next To Me, a song from the Last Shadow Puppets that they miss playing.

The atmosphere during Miles Kane was already kinda hot but it was nothing in comparaison to how the crowd reacted to Arctic Monkeys ! They opened with Don't Sit Down 'Cause I Moved Your Chair which was a good idea because I think this song fits perfectly in first position of setlists. The begining of the show was powerful: Teddy Picker, Crying LightningThe Hellcat Spangled Shalalala, Black Treacle and most of all, Brianstorm ! I wanted to see that song live for years, that was totally crazy !
I know that usually bands play in majority titles from their last album when they tour so I enjoy the fact that Arctic Monkeys included many songs from Favorite Worst Nightmare and Whatever People say I Am That's What I'm Not.  Alex was communicative with the crowd by talking to us or encouraging us to make noise as much as possible. He mentioned that it was their hundredth show on the Suck It and See Tour and that they were pleased to celebrate it in Paris !
We had some surprises: Miles Kane joined Arctic Monkeys onstage twice to play first, the B-side of the The Hellcat Spangled Shalalala 7" vinyl, Little Illusion Machine (Wirral Riddler) and at the end of the show, 505. We also had the visit of the british guitarist and song writter Richard Hawley, who sang You and I with the band for the first time.
We forgot the cold spell which rages currently in France during the evening. The atmosphere in the Olympia was wet and fiesty. The mosh pit was responsive to Arctic Monkeys' songs, people were alternately jumping, screaming, singing and moshing ! I Bet You Look Good And The Dancefloor, Teddy Picker, Brianstorm and Fluorescent Adolescent were the highlights of the show to my opinion.

I spent a great evening with Miles Kane and Arctic Monkeys. I began the show almost in the middle of the venue and I ended up at the 3rd row ! My only regret is that I would have love to see Fake Tales of San Francisco live otherwise I have nothing to say. Both Arctic Monkeys and Miles Kane are brilliant live ! I enjoyed the surprises we got through the show and the atmosphere. As the gig was broadcasted online I wanna think it will be possible to watch it. Maybe someone recorded it ? Meanwhile you can watch my videos on Youtube, I did my best to stay stable but I don't guarantee a perfect stability !
